On November 21, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received Mr. Michael Behrens, Chairman of European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) in a visit to discuss cooperation opportunities.
At the reception, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong highly appreciated well-developed Vietnam-EU cooperation relation, affirming that the Partnership Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between Vietnam and EU came into effect since October 1 2016 and EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) expected to be signed in the coming time will be a new milestone for Vietnam-EU to expand cooperation.

Regarding to investment fields called by HCMC, Mr. Phong said the city is now focusing on developing IT sector as it key economic sector, focusing on developing software, applying IT into e-government. The city is calling for investment in fields of infrastructure, construction of Metro lines, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) with low fuel consumption and low air pollution.
According to Mr. Michael Behrens, European companies are now satisfied with current business situations, they are expecting much in Vietnam market. Members of Eurocham are expecting to expand their investment in Vietnam, including in HCMC. Mr. Michael Behrens said this is a good sign in the context of EVFTA being expected to strongly promote business and investment activities of EU in Vietnam.
Mr. Michael Behrens added European companies are ready for sharing their experience with HCMC in fields of smart city, wastewater treatment, environmental pollution, green energy, trade promotion, environment protection to contribute to the sustainable development of the city.
