EuroCham in Central Vietnam Q1: Networking, Whitebook, Quang Nam Investment Conference

On 23 and 24 March, EuroCham and its Central Vietnam Chapter delivered two successful activities in Danang for Quarter 1. The EuroCham delegation was led by Vice Chairman Tomaso Andreatta and included Executive Director Almut Roessner, supported on the ground by the three EuroCham Central Vietnam (ECV) Delegates: Jose Sanchez-Barroso, Hoa Ly Bui, and Hoang Thuy Duong.

23 March, Eurocham Networking Q1: Risemount Resort, Danang

The first event was held on 23 March in the evening and counted on more than 30 guests. The occasion served to update members and guests on recent EuroCham activities and 2016 review, as well as to promote EuroCham's action regarding the EVFTA and Whitebook, announcing also officially the new Executive Committee and Chairman Jens Ruebbert.

24 March, ECV Whitebook Briefing: Danang Adminstrative Building, Danang

In the format of a breakfast briefing, with more than 30 attendees, the ECV Whitebook Briefing had the presence of Mr. Tran Van Mien, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Danang; and Ms. Huynh Lien Phuong, Vice Director of the Danang Investment Promotion Agency (IPA Danang). In the room were also other officials, media representatives and EuroCham members.

This Whitebook Briefing was also an opportunity to officially deliver the Whitebook 2017 to the local goverment of Danang. The session was led by Vice Chair Tomaso Andreatta, who spoke about EuroCham's advocacy work and also gave his insights regarding Green Growth issues and recommendations.

EuroCham members Till Gartner (mgm technology partners, member of the ICT Sector Committee), Catherine McKinley (Director, Greenshoots International School), and Jose Sanchez-Barroso, (ECV Delegate; Director, Vinh Thanh Investment JSB) conveyed specific Whitebook issues and recommendations to the local authorities in the fields of ICT/HR, Training and Education, and Tourism, respectively. Mr. Andreatta closed the conference with a message of cooperation, urging the local Government to make choices which can be constructive towards the local industrial landscape, while attracting more European business, increasing livelihood, and tapping into the true potential of the Central region.

The EuroCham Vice Chair also announced that EuroCham will stand by its commitment of holding quarterly activities in the region adn developing its ECV Chapter, hoping for an ever growing dialogue between the local business community and authorities, and EuroCham.
 

26 March, Quang Nam Investment Conference and Promotion of Central Coast Urban Tourism 2017: Tam Ky, Quang Nam

EuroCham attended the Quang Nam Investment Conference and Promotion of Central Coast Urban Tourism 2017, represented by EuroCham Vice-Chairman Vo Quang-Hue and 10 EuroCham members operating or active in Central Vietnam in the fields of Tourism, Architecture, HR, Manufacturing, Education, and Training. The conference was jointly organized by the Quang Nam People’s Committee (QPC) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI). Among the keynote speakers in the event were the Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Secretary of Quang Nam Party Committee Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Chairman of QPC Dinh Van Thu, representatives of Central agencies, cities and provinces of key economic regions in Central Vietnam. The event was also attended by international organisations, businesses and investors.

The session focused on the introduction of Quang Nam’s investment climate and experience exchanges between already successful and newcoming businesses in the province. On this occasion, investment certificates and investment research agreements were offered to 32 projects. Quang Nam has so far attracted 126 foreign direct investment (FDIs) projects of nearly 5.5 billion USD. In 2016, the province granted new investment licenses to 17 FDI projects worth about 122.8 million USD. 

EuroCham has worked closely with the Quang Nam Investment Promotion Center (PC Quang Nam) and supported members to register for the conference and the business matchmaking, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sector. EuroCham affiliated Business Associations, Sector Committees and members are hereby encouraged to look into business and investment possibilities and opportunities in Quang Nam. The ECV Chapter is ready to support with information from and on the ground, bringing potential incentives and highlighting favorable FDI policies that Quang Nam and Central Vietnam offer.
