EuroCham Vietnam engages authorities and state-owned enterprises to drive green growth and spotlight GEF 2023

EuroCham Vietnam had a full day of high-level meetings in Hanoi on 24 August, engaging with key partners including Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), national carrier Vietnam Airlines, and state electricity generator Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The meetings focused on strengthening cooperation around green growth, sustainability and Vietnam’s net zero ambitions, while also spotlighting EuroCham’s upcoming Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2023.

Vietnam Airlines Meeting Focuses on Sustainability Alignment

EuroCham Chairman Gabor Fluit, Vice-Chairman Minh Nguyen, Board Members Tri-Mai Hoang, Executive Director Delphine Rousselet, and Hanoi Office Head Van Nguyen met with Vietnam Airlines CEO Le Hong Ha and representatives from the airline’s marketing, corporate affairs and communications departments.

The meeting affirmed Vietnam Airlines’ strategic priorities around sustainability and net zero, aligning with Vietnam’s own commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Mr. Fluit introduced GEF 2023 and invited Vietnam Airlines to participate in EuroCham’s flagship 2023 event on the green economy. Both sides agreed to deepen their long-standing partnership and continue working together on sustainability initiatives.

MOFA Meeting Explores Enhancing EU-Vietnam Trade and Investment

Mr. Fluit, Mr. Nguyen, Ms. Rousselet and Ms. Nguyen also met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu. Deputy Minister Vu noted the importance of EU markets for Vietnamese exporters. He welcomed EuroCham initiatives that support Vietnam’s net zero goal and green growth.

Mr. Fluit introduced GEF 2023 and invited MOFA to “đồng hành cùng” or “join hands” with EuroCham for this major event. MOFA also expressed hope that EuroCham would facilitate more EU investment in Vietnam, strengthen supply chains, and promote technology transfer.

EVN Meeting Focuses on Power Development and Preventing Shortages

The EuroCham delegation, joined by Board Member Stuart Livesey, met with newly appointed EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An. Chairman An thanked EuroCham for feedback on Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8).

Mr. Fluit offered EuroCham’s expertise in helping attract EU investment and technology for sustainable energy infrastructure. The groups discussed cooperation to ensure stable power supply and prevent shortages.  Mr. Fluit also introduced GEF 2023 and invited EVN, as Vietnam’s dominant power company, to participate.

The busy day of meetings demonstrated EuroCham Vietnam’s active engagement with authorities to align on national sustainability goals while promoting green growth opportunities, especially ahead of the chamber’s flagship GEF 2023 later this year.
