Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam

In its relations towards Vietnam, the European Union aims at:

  • Supporting the sustainable economic development of Vietnam and the improvement of living conditions of the poor;
  • Encouraging the integration of Vietnam in the world economy and trading system, and supporting the process of economic and social reforms;
  • Supporting Vietnam's transition to an open society based on sound governance, the rule of law and respect for human rights;
  • Raising the profile of the European Union in Vietnam.

In this context, the European Union and its Delegation to Vietnam play a pivotal part in shaping the EU and global agenda.

   Vietnam – EU Business Forum

To help foster and accelerate Vietnam – EU economic ties, we lobbied for the creation of the Vietnam – EU Business Forum (VEUBF), which was inaugurated in 2006 between EuroCham and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). The VEUBF provides a focus for Vietnam – Europe business issues and interests.

The aim of the VEUBF is to provide an elevated platform for the discussion of Vietnam-EU trade and investment issues and to aid in the transfer of best practice from the European private sector to Vietnamese enterprises. The VEUBF seeks to provide opportunities for Vietnamese and European businesses to network with Government officials, to provide the private sector with a forum to comment on trade and investment-related policies, to provide access information on EU regulations with a view to building closer relationships between the Vietnamese and European business communities, and to provide a channel for dialogue between the business communities and the Vietnamese and EU governments.

The joint secretariat of the VEUBF generates activities including trade missions, seminars, surveys and workshops. The VEUBF also convenes three Working Groups, on Corporate Governance, Trade and Investment, and Labour and Social Issues. The Working Groups enable both European and Vietnamese business sectors enhanced business co-operation and integration, exchange of best practice and know-how, and further business linkages between both parties.
