Partnership has helped 1,000 school children since 2015

Hậu Giang, Vietnam – November 23, 2017 – BASF, world’s leading chemical company, and Nippon Paint, a global leader in paint manufacturing, have completed a joint renovation project at Hoà An Kindergarten, a preschool located in a remote area of Hậu Giang province. This is the latest phase of a joint initiative launched in 2015 to fund school painting projects in needy areas of Vietnam, therefore improving learning environments in the area. As of this year, a total of 7,500 square meters of classroom and learning spaces have been redecorated with low odor paints that minimize impact on student health, benefiting almost 1,000 children at the kindergarten and primary levels. The beneficiary schools are predominantly located in Trà Vinh, Hậu Giang and Đồng Nai provinces.

Hoà An Kindergarten, currently accomodating 140 children aged 4-5 per academic year, has four classrooms and a kitchen, previously all in heavily rundown condition. By providing paints and waterproofing solutions to renovate almost 2,700 square meters of space, BASF and Nippon Paints aim to provide better education conditions for the local students.

The initiative is facilitated by saigonchildren™. Its “School Building and Learning Environments” program has built more than 480 classrooms since it was established in 1992, benefiting thousands of students from kindergarten up to secondary levels.

“A well-educated young generation is important to BASF. Therefore, education is one of the core elements of our corporate citizenship efforts. We work with our partners to provide education to less privileged children in Vietnam and to help develop the future leaders of the country. The partnership with Nippon Paint underlines our commitment to help improve quality of life for the neighboring community through innovative solutions,” said Tanachart Ralsiripong, Managing Director, BASF Vietnam.

“Our corporate social responsibility activities offer Nippon Paint a platform to do something meaningful for the community and the environment. We believe the best way to contribute to our society is with our painting solutions and expertise, backed by the skills and passion of our employees. This distinction validates our efforts toward making a substantial and lasting impact in communities. We also wanted a project that would build pride and inspire participation among our employees, and allow us to give back to our local community,” said Ee Soon Hean, General Director of Nippon Paint Vietnam.
