On 26 November 2024, the European Chamber of Commerce Thailand (EABC) hosted an impactful luncheon seminar, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the progress and future of the EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Representing EuroCham Vietnam at this significant event, Executive Director Ms. Delphine Rousselet joined other distinguished participants to exchange perspectives on the economic potential of this agreement and share insights on lessons learned from existing FTAs.
The seminar featured in-depth discussions led by prominent speakers, including Mr. Christophe Kiener, EU Chief Negotiator for the European Commission, and Ms. Chotima Iemsawasdikul, Director General at Thailand’s Department of Trade Negotiations. The dialogue provided valuable updates on the fourth round of EU-Thailand FTA negotiations and explored opportunities to strengthen trade and investment relations between the two regions.
EuroCham Vietnam’s presence in the room added significant value, particularly during a question on lessons learned from the EU’s existing FTAs with Vietnam and Singapore. These agreements have demonstrated the tangible benefits of enhanced trade cooperation, offering valuable insights for shaping the EU-Thailand FTA. Ms. Rousselet highlighted EuroCham Vietnam’s advocacy work and the importance of fostering a balanced, open, and transparent trade environment.
The event underscored the critical role of such platforms in advancing regional trade and promoting mutual economic growth. As the EU and Thailand continue to navigate FTA negotiations, collaboration between businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders remains essential to achieving sustainable and inclusive outcomes.
EuroCham Vietnam remains committed to fostering a robust business environment in Vietnam for EU companies and aspires to serve as a catalyst for deeper collaboration between the EU and ASEAN. By leveraging its expertise and experience, EuroCham seeks to support not only Vietnam’s economic development but also the broader integration of the two unions.
