EuroCham and HCMC leaders meet to drive green economy initiatives at GEFE 2024

On Wednesday, 11 June, EuroCham Vietnam met with Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Phan Van Mai to discuss the upcoming Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2024. Scheduled for 21-23 October in HCMC, GEFE 2024 aims to promote dialogue and innovation in sustainable development.

The meeting provided an opportunity for EuroCham’s newly appointed Chairman, Dominik Meichle, to engage with Chairman Mai for the first time since taking on the role three months ago. A diverse delegation from EuroCham attended, including:

• Executive Director Delphine Rousselet
• Co-Chairman of our Green Growth Sector Committee (GGSC) Erick Contreras
• Vice-Chairman of the GGSC’s Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Working Group Dinh Nguyen
• Events Manager Nhung Nguyen
• Head of MarCom cum GEFE Project Manager Pauline Dutertre
• GEFE Project Senior Officer Ngoc Tran

HCMC’s Departments of Foreign Affairs, Industry & Trade, Natural Resources, and Investment also joined to explore avenues for cooperation.

Chairman Mai expressed HCMC’s strong commitment to actively participate in GEFE 2024, recognising it as a valuable platform to gain insights from global experts on green economy development. This engagement underscores the city’s dedication to incorporating sustainable practices into its growth strategy.

The meeting also touched on the broader context of sustainability in Vietnam’s economic landscape. As Vietnam’s largest city, HCMC plays a crucial role in balancing rapid development with environmental responsibility. Events like GEFE 2024 offer a platform for sharing sustainability discussions and positioning HCMC as a key player in driving sustainable growth in Vietnam.
