On 14 March 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee hosted the “Meeting between Ho Chi Minh City Leaders and Foreign Business Associations, Outstanding Enterprises 2024” at the Rex Hotel Saigon. Chaired by H.E. Phan Van Mai Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the event provided a platform for city leaders to engage with the international business community and discuss ways to foster a more conducive investment environment.
Representing EuroCham Vietnam at the meeting were Vice Chairman Dominik Meichle and GEFE Project Manager cum Head of MarCom Pauline Dutertre. The event commenced with a comprehensive report presented by Mrs. Le Thi Huynh Mai, Director of Ho Chi Minh’s Department of Planning and Investment (HCMC DPI). She outlined the city’s socio-economic situation in 2023 and provided an overview of the significant mechanisms and policies stemming from the National Assembly’s Resolution 98/2023/QH15, which laid out crucial guidance for the city’s sustainable development agenda.
Mr. Tran Phu Lu from the Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) then introduced the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Solving Difficulties of FDI Enterprises, highlighting the city’s relentless efforts in creating an inclusive institution and facilitating a favorable business environment for local and international businesses.
Building on these efforts to create a more collaborative ecosystem, Mr. Meichle took the stage and emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration, highlighting several key areas where EuroCham and Ho Chi Minh City could deepen their partnership. These include establishing a carbon credit market, implementing Resolution 98 on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and developing a comprehensive policy framework for the city’s green development up until 2023 and beyond.
Mr. Meichle emphasized that the upcoming Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, slated to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from 21-23 October, 2024, presents an opportunity to address pressing environmental challenges facing the city and the nation. He called for the city’s support and collaboration in organizing GEFE 2024 and its associated lead-up events in the coming months.
EuroCham appreciates the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) shared commitment to fostering a sustainable and prosperous business environment aligned with national priorities.
