On 15 May, the EVN Hanoi Information Exchange Conference on Power Supply 2024 took place at the EVN Hanoi Headquarters. The conference was chaired by EVN Hanoi Deputy CEO Nguyen Anh Dung and attended by representatives from foreign business associations and enterprises.
The conference served as a platform for EVN Hanoi to provide insights into Hanoi’s power supply situation for 2024 and solutions for energy savings, in line with the Prime Minister’s Directive 20/CT-TTg. Nguyen Anh Dung highlighted that while Hanoi’s power grid primarily caters to household consumption, measures are being implemented to ensure a continuous and stable power supply for the city’s 62 industrial parks. Despite operational hurdles, EVNHANOI utilised only 76% of its capacity in 2023 but due to some objective reasons of transmission line and machinery, the efficiency was lost by 20% during the peak days.
Head of Technical Department Tran Duy Huan presented forecasts for peak months and power supply scenarios, emphasising the importance of shifting production to off-peak hours or weekends and implementing energy-saving measures during periods of high load demand.
During the discussion, representatives from various business associations, including EuroCham and Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, raised concerns about power shortage and the potential impact on manufacturing operations. EuroCham’s Head of Hanoi Office cum External Relations Manager Van Nguyen commended EVN Hanoi’s transparency and efforts, as we continue to advocate for early notifications of any potential power disruptions to minimise operational disruptions and uphold business continuity.
Yamaha Motor Vietnam highlighted regulatory hurdles in rooftop solar panel installations, prompting constructive discussions on regulatory streamlining. In response, EVN Hanoi suggested consulting with the Hanoi Department of Construction on this matter and implementing a preliminary rooftop loading inspection.
The conference marked the first of an annual series aimed at fostering open communication between EVN Hanoi and foreign-invested enterprises. Participants were also given the opportunity to visit EVN Hanoi’s electrical system control centre, providing valuable insights into the utility’s operations.
