EuroCham Luncheon with DG INTPA & EIB Directors to Explore Green Transition in Vietnam

On 20 September 2024, EuroCham Vietnam participated in a luncheon in Hanoi hosted by the EU Delegation, featuring distinguished guests Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) Peteris Ustubs and European Investment Bank (EIB) Director Thouraya Triki. The event provided a platform for in-depth discussions around the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and its implications for Vietnam’s renewable energy, climate action, and green transition.

Key EuroCham Participants EuroCham was well-represented by Vice-Chairs Mr. Torben Minko and Mr. Jean-Jacques Bouflet, alongside Board Members Mr. Stuart Livesey and Mr. Giando Zappia. Executive Director Mrs. Delphine Rousselet and Head of the Hanoi Office Mrs. Van Nguyen also attended, bringing their insights into Vietnam’s evolving green energy landscape.

Focused Discussions on Energy, Regulation, and Finance, the luncheon centred on the role European companies can play in Vietnam’s green transition, particularly through JETP. Each EuroCham representative shared unique perspectives:

  • Mr. Torben Minko offered insights from the EU manufacturing sector, emphasising the growing need for renewable energy and how new EU regulations and reporting requirements are shaping business operations.
  • Mr. Jean-Jacques Bouflet addressed the regulatory hurdles that hinder the full implementation of JETP in Vietnam, highlighting the need for streamlined policies to facilitate sustainable development.
  • Mr. Stuart Livesey drew on his expertise in offshore wind, discussing both the challenges and opportunities of advancing Vietnam’s wind energy capacity.
  • Mr. Giando Zappia shared his thoughts on the current state of sustainable finance in Vietnam, stressing the importance of financing mechanisms to support green transition projects.

Looking ahead

EuroCham remains committed to supporting Vietnam’s green transition and will continue engaging with key stakeholders to ensure European businesses play a pivotal role in the country’s sustainable future. One of the major upcoming initiatives is the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, which will serve as a key platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration on renewable energy, climate action, and the green transition between Vietnam and Europe.
