EuroCham Vietnam attends first Industrial Park Forum to discuss textile and leather industry challenges

Van Nguyen, Head of the EuroCham Vietnam Hanoi Office and External Relations Manager, participated in the inaugural Industrial Park Forum held at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Hanoi, on 7 December 2023.

The forum, organized by IDH, the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO), and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), brought together key industry stakeholders and Vietnamese authorities to address the challenges facing the textiles and leather, footwear, handbag industry.

The event saw significant participation from various Vietnamese authorities, including Vuong Thi Minh Hieu, Deputy Director of the Economic Zones Management Department of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). Additionally, notable industry leaders such as Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of VITAS, and Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairwoman of LEFASO, were in attendance.

A critical aspect of the forum was to highlight the challenges faced by the textile and leather industries and to increase awareness among Vietnamese authorities. Discussions focused on identifying localities with potential advantages for these industries. The forum emphasized the need for local authorities to provide favorable conditions for businesses and highlighted the importance of a long-term, consistent planning approach in each province to support industry growth.

This event follows EuroCham’s recent engagement with both LEFASO and VITAS, where memoranda of understanding were signed at the Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2023 in November. These agreements underline EuroCham’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and cooperation within Vietnam’s key industrial sectors.

The First Industrial Park Forum represented a significant step forward in collaborative efforts to address industry-specific challenges and to promote sustainable growth in Vietnam’s vital textile and leather sectors.
