EuroCham Vietnam Stands With Typhoon Yagi’s Affected Communities: Emergency Relief And A Commitment To Sustainable Futures

On September 7, Super Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm Vietnam has faced in three decades, struck with devastating force. The Northern region, alongside at least 26 other provinces, bore the brunt of its fury. With winds exceeding 120 km/h, the storm inflicted severe flooding, landslides, and widespread destruction, impacting homes, infrastructure, and the lives of countless families. Particularly hard-hit are children and vulnerable communities, who face disrupted education, healthcare, and essential services.

In response to this tragedy, EuroCham Vietnam has mobilised our funds and made a donation to UNICEF Vietnam to provide immediate relief to those most affected. This critical support will help deliver vital resources, such as clean water, sanitation supplies, healthcare, and educational materials to those in dire need. Beyond this emergency aid, our initial meeting with UNICEF marks the beginning of a long-term partnership. Together, we are committed to supporting the ongoing needs of vulnerable communities and ensuring sustainable, long-lasting impacts.

While this contribution provides crucial immediate relief, it is a stark reminder of the urgent need for long-term, resilient solutions. The destruction wrought by Yagi highlights the importance of integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into our recovery efforts. As we work to support those affected, we must also focus on creating a more sustainable future.

This is why EuroCham Vietnam is calling on all stakeholders to prioritise sustainable practices such as green transition, green energy, and the circular economy. These key topics will be central to discussions at Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE 2024), taking place from 21 to 23 October in Ho Chi Minh City. GEFE will bring together high-level public and private sectors’ leaders to drive forward innovative solutions that enhance climate resilience and build a more sustainable future.

As we extend our heartfelt sympathies to those who have been affected by this disaster, we also urge everyone to join us in this crucial mission. By working together, we can turn compassion into action and create a future where communities are better equipped to withstand and overcome such challenges.

Let’s stand together, not only in times of immediate need but also in our commitment to building a stronger, greener, and more resilient Vietnam.
