EuroCham’s Construction Sector Committee: spearheading sustainable development in Vietnam’s construction industry

The construction industry in Vietnam, mirroring global trends, is witnessing significant transformations, with sustainability and innovation at the forefront. The EuroCham Construction Sector Committee, established in July 2023, is playing a key role in this dynamic landscape.

A prominent industry voice, the Construction Sector Committee now has 20 active members focusing on five working groups: Sustainable cities & building, Firefighting, Best practices, Standards, and Land use.

The Construction Sector Committee’s formation marks a step in bridging the gap between the public and private sectors. Providing expert opinions to the government on legislative issues and construction-related issues, the committee encourages the industry to become more sustainable and environmentally conscious.

Advocacy goals: stability, sustainability, and safety

At its core, the committee’s advocacy is threefold:

  • Firstly, to establish a stable regulatory framework for the construction industry in Vietnam.
  • Secondly, to promote best practices and international standards, thus enhancing skills and contributing to the industry’s sustainable development.
  • Lastly, to foster innovation, investment, and collaboration, with a keen focus on safety, quality, and environmental responsibility. These goals are crucial in cultivating a thriving construction sector that contributes to Vietnam’s economic and social development.

Spotlight on Key Activities and Milestones

The Construction Sector Committee has already made significant strides since its inception. Here are some of the highlights:

  • 5 October 2023: The committee successfully organized the “EuroCham’s Construction Sector Committee Launch” Breakfast Talk. This event marked the official inauguration of the committee and set the stage for its future activities.
  • December 2023: The committee held the “Designing with AI” Breakfast Talks in both HCMC and Hanoi. These talks delved into the integration of artificial intelligence in construction design, showcasing the committee’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology.
  • 16 January 2024: Chairman Michel Cassagnes delivered a speech at the Whitebook Launch. This appearance highlighted key recommendations for the new QCVN, particularly regarding the firefighting certification of materials, demonstrating the committee’s involvement in regulatory standards.
  • 17 January 2024: A courtesy meeting with the Ministry of Construction further cemented mutual cooperation. This meeting underscored the strengthening relationship between the committee and governmental authorities, enhancing collaborative efforts.
  • 21 January 2024: Chairman Michel Cassagnes appeared on VTV4 news, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly materials and architecture in reducing energy consumption. His appearance played a significant role in positioning Vietnam’s construction sector as an attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Upcoming Tall Building Forum

Looking ahead, on 28 May 2024, the Construction Sector Committee is organizing the Tall Building Forum in HCMC and Cambodia. This event aims to provide a practical platform for discussing the challenges and new trends in tall building construction, particularly in the context of urban design and sustainability. It’s an opportunity for professionals from both local and international backgrounds in the construction sector to share insights, explore new technologies, and collaborate on ideas for future developments. The focus of the forum is on realistic, actionable solutions for the evolving landscape of urban construction. Stay tuned for more information.

Joining Hands for a Greener Future

The Construction Sector Committee extends an open invitation to individuals and organizations interested in contributing to Vietnam’s construction industry’s sustainable development.
