Tall Building Forum is coming to Vietnam!

[Click HERE to see the DIGITAL BROCHURE] Within successful Tall Building Forum in Cambodia, this year, EuroCham Vietnam and EuroCham Cambodia will co-organize the 2-day event in both Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh. Led by the Construction Sector Committee of EuroCham Vietnam, the Tall Building Forum 2024 aims to provide profound insights into the present and future trends of high-rise buildings in Vietnam, addressing current issues such as the interplay between tall and small buildings in densely populated areas, sustainable practices in urban high-rise development, and the landscape of affordable housing.

    Branch Manager Southeast Asia at Dewan Architects + Engineers

    Freek Jansen is Branch Manager of Dewan Architects + Engineers for the Vietnam Studio and in charge of the Southeast Asian region. He holds a master’s degree in architecture from Technical University in Delft, Netherlands and has more than 10 years of experience in the Southeast Asia market in general.

    With his extensive skills, knowledge, accumulated experiences and as Branch Manager, Freek Jansen has his role in developing and managing the team to bring constant quality to all Clients, as well as combining his international knowledge and local culture to strengthen the quality offerings.

    Over the course of his career, Freek has overseen projects in various regions in Southeast Asia and his portfolio includes a diverse range of projects, with a notable knowledge in hospitality.

    Building Team Leader of Arup Vietnam

    Kien is a Structural Engineer with experience in both Building and Bridge engineering. He graduated in 2001 with a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Cambridge University, United Kingdom. Upon graduation he worked in London for 8 years and subsequently Hong Kong for 7 years before to moving to the Arup Vietnam office in 2016.

    During this time, Kien has been involved in high profile projects with world-renowned architects including Foster + Partners, Roger Stirk Harbour & Partners, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, and Buro Ole Scheeren, with built projects in Europe, America, and Asia. He has also been involved in a number of award-winning international architectural competitions, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

    In addition to practising, Kien is regularly involved in lecturing and tutoring, including at Imperial College, London and Hong Kong University (where he was Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture), Hong Kong Design Institute, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has also been responsible for a number of pro bono projects including work with Habitat for Humanity and other educational charities in London.

    As Building Team Leader of Arup Vietnam, Kien is responsible for the delivery of Arup’s offerings in Structural and Building Services Engineering throughout Vietnam, and has led the structural design for the Landmark 81 Tower from Concept through to completion. He is currently working on several high-profile projects throughout Vietnam for domestic and international Clients, including the new Long Thanh Airport Terminal Building in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the 88-storey Thu Thiem Observation Tower.

    Mark has over 25 years of experience as Architect, managing all stages from Concept Design to construction documentation, Engineering coordination and contract management and authorship supervision over now Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa

    Mark’s drive leads his team to always strive towards excellence and uniqueness in several areas of design, reaching successful projects in Hospitality, Mixed Use development, High Rise building, Residential and Master Planning projects.

    Since 2021 he has been appointed Director of Architecture for the Group, in charge of managing design operations; supervising production outcomes shaped by all offices from Archetype Group, leading in parallel the brand transformation of the company.

    Born in 1979, in Lisbon, Sérgio graduated in Architecture from Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa in 2004, obtained the LEED certification in 2013 and is currently a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Social Sustainability and Development at the Universidade Aberta de Lisboa. He had practised as an Architect in Portugal, having started his international career in Vietnam, then in Algeria, Hong Kong and Macau, enrolling directly in projects related to urban planning, hotels and resorts, healthcare, retail, entertainment and science parks. He moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2011 and in 2018 joined S+A Group as the Founding and Managing Partner of S+A Vietnam. Sérgio frequently speaks and moderates forums and conferences related to sustainability practices in architecture and hospitality in Southeast Asia.

    Managing Director of KONE Vietnam

    More than 17 years experiences in various industries including P&L leadership, sales, project & services management aim for improving productivity and profitability, and 12 years of solid managerial experiences in Asia Pacific region, with successful track records. King works in Vietnam for 8 years. He is an active member of several professional organizations to represent the voice as the lift and escalator supplier & contractor. Currently, he is Vice-Chairman of Construction Section Committee under EuroCham.
    He is appointed to be Managing Director of Kone Vietnam, which is corporate member of Nordic Chamber of Commerce Vietnam (NordCham) since September 2023. He has been invited as panel speaker for Green Sustainability Conference organized by NordCham. Before that, he was Southeast Asia Sales Director of Vesuvius Vietnam to implement the strategic plan for business execution and develop new business streams in the region, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Myanmar. He also worked in Jardine Schindler Vietnam which is the corporate member of Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam (HKBAV).

    Asia Pacific Regional Head of R&D for Concrete products at Sika

    Dr. Ketan R Sompura is the Asia Pacific Regional Head of R&D for Concrete products at Sika. He holds a M.S and Ph.D. degree in Civil engineering from Clemson University, South Carolina, USA. He has 26 years of experience in the field of concrete materials and chemical admixtures. His current role at Sika involves heading the APAC Concrete Technology Center in Vietnam, support local Asia Pacific countries for their R&D projects, evaluate and promote new technologies and sustainable materials within the region, co-ordinate with global R&D and other regional R&D centers. In the past, he has worked in Sika USA of 12 years in various positions, the last being Director of Concrete Technology and for 5 years as Head of R&D and Concrete Technical Services in Sika India. He was an active voting member on several committees at ASTM and ACI.

    Country Manager ofTurner International Malaysia

    CJ is the Country Manager of Turner International Malaysia, boasting 23 years of service with the company. Starting as a superintendent for the Taipei 101 project in 2000, he gained the complete field experience in constructing what was then the world’s tallest building, which opened up another opportunity for him to participate in Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, from its foundation through to completion.

    In 2014, CJ brought his extensive expertise in super high-rise design and project management to Malaysia. As Project Director, he led the Merdeka 118 project, currently the second tallest building in the world. Known for his deep understanding of high-rise construction complexities, CJ now oversees all operations at Turner International Malaysia, with a primary focus on the expansive Merdeka 118 Development.

    Architect, Head of Sustainability and Circularity of Takenaka Corporation Asia Regional Headquarters

    Mr Ryusuke Kojio is a licensed/registered architect in Japan, Germany and APEC with 35 years of experience in design-build delivery of various types of projects, including about sixteen years in Europe (Germany, Netherlands, UK, Czech Republic, Poland, etc.) and six years in Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries. He has worked for Takenaka Corporation, a Japanese design-build company with over four centuries of history. The company has been active in Singapore for fifty years and has delivered several important buildings such as National Gallery of Singapore and the Changi Airport Terminals.

    He holds a Master’s degree in Architectural History from the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan. He has lectured at several universities in Germany, such as TUM (Technical University of Munich) and RWTH (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule) Aachen, and has given many presentations at international conferences, such as the WSBE (World Sustainable Built Environment) conferences. He has been invited as a critic for studio projects by several architectural schools, including the National University of Singapore, Department of Architecture, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Since January 2022, he has been appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture (DOA), teaching Architectural Conservation at the Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation (MAArC).

    Serkan brings over 15 years of dedicated service to KONE, where he currently leads as the Head of Major Projects for New Building Solutions and Modernizations in Southeast Asia. His career includes a notable role in expanding KONE Türkiye’s market presence through the careful management of several key projects, such as the installation of Europe’s fastest elevator.

    With a strong background in complex negotiations and project management, Serkan has helped to enhance KONE’s operational footprint, consistently focusing on customer satisfaction. His approach to major projects emphasizes collaborative leadership and a commitment to quality, driving KONE’s strategic objectives in the vertical transportation industry. Currently, he is dedicated to leading innovative and effective projects in Southeast Asia, aligning them with KONE’s global standards and goals.

    Bryan has 23 years’ experience in Wind Engineering. Bryan has been in a principal engineer or technical expert role for the wind engineering studies on hundreds of international projects. He has extensive experience in wind tunnel testing and computational numerical analysis, investigating wind issues such as wind loading and dynamic response for high-rise buildings, stadiums, airports, large-span roof structures and bridges.

    Mohammed Adib serves as the Chief Design Officer at Dewan Architects + Engineers, having joined the firm in 2018. He holds a degree in architectural studies from the AA School of Architecture in London and pursued interior architecture studies at EINA University School of Design and Art in Barcelona. In his role, he is responsible for establishing the firm’s design language.

    Over the course of his career spanning more than three decades, Mohammed has overseen projects in various regions, including Europe, Asia, and Africa. His portfolio includes a diverse range of projects, with a notable presence in the GCC region. Some prominent projects he has been involved in encompass The Avenue Hotel, Shaza Mecca Hotel, Cayan Cantara Towers, Zaharam Apartments, and Shatt Al Arab Hotel, among others.

    Furthermore, Mohammed’s expertise extends to internal projects, including Dewan’s office in Dubai Design District. Notably, he has played a pivotal role in the firm’s expansion into Southeast Asia, overseeing the establishment of an office in Vietnam and successfully delivering various residential and master planning projects. Mohammed also plays a crucial role in shaping the firm’s Web 3.0 strategy, which includes forming its Metaverse Architecture Department (MAD).

    Vice Chairman of Society of Construction Laws of Vietnam

    Tuan‘s wealth of experience in construction management and engineering, business management and structures has been complemented by his recent role as vice director and chief operation officer of the TTAD. Tuan has also learnt much from the key role as Vice Director general of Saigon Construction Quality Control Company (SCQC), one of the largest firms in construction quality management in South Viet Nam. His experience encompasses varied engineering disciplines but his engineering expertise lies within the field of structural and civil engineering. His management and coordination abilities ensure that Tuan’s services are well sought within the organisation and he continually proves to be an asset to any project and corporate fortunate to engage his services. His range of professional roles is vast and includes design team leader, construction supervision, business administration, public relations, contract administration, legal advisory, quality management, and the team leader on several multi-disciplinary study and project as well as design teams on civil and industrial projects in Vietnam.

    Quan Pham is a Principal at Aedas and has over 18 years of architectural experience. He joined Aedas Singapore in 2015 and has led many significant award-winning projects in Vietnam including Alacarte Condotel in Ha Long Bay, Wyndham Soleil in Da Nang, Marina Bayfront Towers in Ha Long Bay, and Ha Long Sun Grand Marina.

    He is especially familiar with Singapore and Vietnam projects, ranging from large-scale master plans, mixed-use developments as well as residential, commercial & institutional designs.

    Prior to joining Aedas, Quan led the design for many projects in Singapore such as Nanyang Technological University Academic Building, Woodcress @ Punggol Waterfront, and CT Hub2 Office Building.

    At Aedas, Quan has delivered many large-scale Masterplans across Vietnam that include Novaworld Phan Thiet Beachfront Masterplan, SouthWest Vinh Eco-city Masterplan, Sunrise Bay Masterplan in Da Nang city, and TMS Wonderworld in Vinh Yen city.

    Through his experience in Vietnam, he has worked with developers across the country and gained a deep understanding of the Vietnamese market, allowing the team to always remain one of the top designers in Vietnam.
