On 20 November, a meeting took place at the Administrative Center of Binh Duong province between representatives from the People’s Committee of Binh Duong province and EuroCham Vietnam. Preliminary discussions were held to examine the feasibility of organizing the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) in Binh Duong in November 2024.

The Binh Duong province delegation was led by Nguyen Loc Ha, a Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice-Chairman of the province. EuroCham’s delegation was headed by Dominik Meichle, Vice-Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam, and included Advisory Board Chairman Alain Cany, Board Member Giando Zappia, Executive Director Delphine Rousselet, Head of Marcom Rebecca Bauden, and Events Manager Nhung Nguyen.

Mr. Meichle kicked off the meeting by acknowledging the resounding success of the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) held in Ho Chi Minh City in 2022 and the more recent Green Economy Forum (GEF) hosted in Hanoi in 2023. These forums garnered significant attention, attracting distinguished guests, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner Sinkevicius, numerous Vietnamese ministers, and an array of other noteworthy individuals.

Building upon this success, Mr. Meichle expressed his hope for a collaborative effort to meticulously prepare and ensure the success of GEFE 2024. He highlighted the event’s track record of convening top-level leaders and decision-makers, emphasizing their pivotal role in driving discussions and spearheading initiatives that promote green growth and economic sustainability.

Mr. Ha contributed valuable insights into Binh Duong’s current standing as the second-ranked province nationwide in attracting foreign investment, boasting an impressive investment capital exceeding US$40.2 billion. He underscored Binh Duong’s strategic focus on attracting investments in high-tech, advanced, environmentally friendly industries, and sectors known for their high-value contributions to the economy.

Collectively, the meeting laid the foundation for a promising collaboration between EuroCham and Binh Duong, centered around the principles of sustainable growth and green initiatives. The discussions during the meeting underlined Binh Duong’s unwavering commitment to positioning itself as a hub for green and high-tech industries, holding significant potential to influence and contribute substantially to Vietnam’s burgeoning green economy.
