Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2024: EuroCham’s Commitment to Vietnam’s Sustainable Growth

At the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum (HEF) 2024 on 25 September, distinguished leaders, namely Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, outlined the city’s commitment to sustainable development, emphasising industrial transformation, green transition, and digital innovation as core pillars. The theme, “Industrial Transformation: A New Driver for Ho Chi Minh City’s Sustainable Growth,” highlighted the city’s focus on aligning industrial and economic strategies with Vietnam’s broader sustainability goals.

EuroCham Advisory Board Chairman, Mr. Alain Cany, represented EuroCham’s strong advocacy efforts by addressing two critical areas: the Investment Support Fund and the implementation of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA).

On the Investment Support Fund, Mr. Cany recommended that enterprises applying the Global Minimum Tax, especially those in renewable energy, hi-tech sectors, and clean energy, benefit from this fund. He noted that the current draft decree includes hi-tech enterprises, but urged an expansion to ensure more sectors could access support, especially those critical to the green transition.

Regarding the DPPA, Mr. Cany emphasised the importance of unlocking renewable energy projects that are currently hindered by grid restrictions. He urged additional dialogue on areas such as DPPA charges, wheeling fees, and timely updates to the Power Development Plan (PDP8), which would support the wider implementation of the DPPA, contributing significantly to Vietnam’s energy transition.

EuroCham is committed to promoting green growth and aligning with government strategies. Our advocacy initiatives, from clean energy to sustainable investments, are driving forward shared goals between the European business community and the Vietnamese government. As part of these efforts, EuroCham is hosting the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2024 in October, a vital platform for fostering dialogue on green transition and climate resilience.

We look forward to continued collaboration with the Vietnamese government and the private sector to realise these important initiatives. We encourage all stakeholders to join us in this critical journey toward a sustainable future for Vietnam.
