Meeting with the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Party Committee

23 February 2018, Ba Ria – Vung Tau – The EuroCham Delegation led by Ms. Almut Roessner, EuroCham Executive Director and Mr. Brian O’Reilly, EuroCham Southeastern Vietnam Delegate attended the Enterprises and Investors Meeting 2018 of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province at the Imperial Hotel in Vung Tau City on 23 February 2018.
The Meeting served as a channel to report on socio – economic, investment and enterprise development in 2017 of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. In last year, the province focused on sustainable development with VND 71,000 billion contributed to the Government budget and up to 9,000 enterprises actively operating .The province also witnessed the economic growth of 7.1% with 315 FDI projects, most of them were in Seaport industry (63%), Tourism (35,5%) and other industries such as Aqua business, Education and Supporting industry.

In 2018, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province will focus on promoting the development of private economy, especially in supporting industries, seaports, logistics, tourism and hi-tech agriculture industries. Ba Ria – Vung Tau province leaders promised to create an advantage business environment to attract more foreign investment with the emphasis on sustainable development.

Attending the Meeting were Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council; Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh, Chairman of the People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee and other leaders from relevant departments of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
Taking this opportunity, Ms. Almut Roessner and Mr. Brian O’Reilly had a short conversation with Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh to introduce about EuroCham and EuroCham Southeastern Vietnam Chapter. Ms. Roessner also talked briefly about the Whitebook and handed in a gifted copy to Mr. Linh. Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh expressed his strong interest in the role and active activities of EuroCham in connecting European enterprises and promote the European investment into Vietnam. He also proposed a formal and official meeting with EuroCham in May/ June 2018 to have a further detailed discussion on how to attract more European enterprises to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
During the Meeting and the luncheon thereafter, Ms. Roessner and Mr. O’Reilly also had several short conversations with Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen and the Director of the Planning and Investment Department of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. They all expressed a strong commitment to cooperate further with EuroCham.
The Meeting ended successfully with a fruitful result for EuroCham Delegation in establishing a beginning foundation to play a more active role in connecting European enterprises and investment to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, especially in the context when the EuroCham Southeastern Vietnam Chapter has been firmly established and the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is going to be ratified soon.
