Quang Nam People's Committee visited EuroCham

On 20 December, EuroCham had the honour of receiving a delegation from the Quang Nam Preople's Committee in its Ho Chi Minh City office. The group was led by Vice-Chairman Mr. Le Tri Thanh, and included Mr. Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of Department of Foreign Affairs – and Mr. Tran Quoc An, Deputy Head of Division, Department of Foreign Affairs. Also present was Mr. Mr. Vo Van Hung – Director, Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) Quang Nam – who has cooperated with EuroCham in several meetings and events since 2016. The meeting aimed to look back on the cooperation between EuroCham and the Quang Nam provincial authorities, discussing ideas for future joint action, connected also to the EuroCham Central Vietnam Chapter's activities.

Vice-Chairman Mr. Thanh thanked EuroCham for the cooperation carried out so far, namely the Investment Conference attended in March 2017, as well as the two EuroCham Central Vietnam Business Forums (November 2016 and November 2017) in which IPA Quang Nam participated. Mr. Thanh mentioned that the People's Committe would welcome further support from EuroCham in promoting the potential of the province towards European investors, namely in sectors such as manufacturing (engineering, electric, households, automotive) and agriculture (water treatment, wood products, design training); and livestock breeding. The Vice-Chairman expressed the need for the local production to enhance the management and quality of its operations, and that European experience would be a good source for further improvements.

On behalf of EuroCham, a delegation including Vice-Chairman Mr. Stefano Pellegrino welcomed the group from Quang Nam province, alongside several Secretariat members and Sector Committee Chairs Mr. Thierry Rocaboy (FAABS) and Mr. Thomas McClelland (Tax and Transfer Pricing). Mr. Pellegrino welcomed the visit of the Quang Nam People's Committee with words of gratitude, reiteirating the important joint action carried out so far between the chamber and the provincial authorities. In response to some of the ideas shared by Mr. Thanh, Mr. Rocaboy mentioned the interest of the FAABS to collaborate on food safety-related activities, as well as a possible 2018 trade mission with European companies in the livestock business to the province. Mr. McClelland also expressed the will of EuroCham's Tax and Transfer Pricing Sector Committee to discuss further on tax incentives which may enhance the interest of future investors in Quang Nam. Finally, Executive Director Ms. Almut Roessner added the intention of EuroCham to organise a Whitebook Briefing in Quang Nam in 2018, an idea which was welcomed by the visiting delegation.

With both sides showing appreciation for this meeting, Mr. Thanh concluded by saying that the People's Committee and its relevant departments are open for any questions and clarification businesses might require. The Vice Chairman stressed that Quang Nam is a province open for business an that EuroCham's support is considered key for the province's investment promotion.
