Update on Covid-19

Dear EuroCham Members,

In these uncertain times, we know the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have disruptive and damaging effects on our business operations and personal lives. EuroCham is working hard to support our members and their companies, and we will continue to make this our main focus over the coming months.

This is an unpredictable and fast-moving situation, and we want to keep our members informed and updated with the guidance and actions of national and local authorities. In that spirit, please find below some of the latest information on COVID-19:

The Government of Vietnam has requested appropriate isolation measures, medical surveillance, large-scale testing, and monitoring of all cases of contact with infected people or suspected cases of COVID-19 and, in particular, of those who have visited Da Nang since the 1st of July. In Da Nang itself, strict measures have been introduced to limit the spread of the virus, including restrictions on gatherings, events, and public transport.

Ho Chi Minh City

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee now requires people to wear masks in public places and conduct all measures to prevent the spread of the virus. It has also temporarily suspended non-urgent events such as celebrations, fairs, investment-promotion conferences, and seminars.

For gatherings such as weddings and funerals, the advice is to limit the number of people attending. Meanwhile, for gatherings in public spaces such as outside schools or hospitals, no more than 30 people should attend. Bars and discos have also been temporarily closed, and the People’s Committee recommends that meetings and conferences are held online.

The HCMC Steering Committee for Prevention and Control of COVID-19 has requested that districts and wards have in place appropriate disease-prevention measures. The Chairman of the People’s Committee has also announced that failure to wear a mask in public will result in an administrative fine of up to 300,000 VND.

Hanoi

The city has screened over 88,000 people returning from Da Nang since July the 8th, performing rapid tests on over 70,000 residents. The Hanoi authorities have requested all bars, pubs, and karaoke parlors to close. Meanwhile, customers at restaurants and supermarkets have been asked to keep a safe distance, effective from August 1.Gatherings of more than 30 people have also been banned.

Hanoi’s tourism authorities have requested local businesses to adjust their stimulus programs. The Tourism Department has also asked the city’s tour operators to draw up a list of Hanoi residents who visited or traveled through pandemic-hit areas.

EuroCham will continue to monitor the latest developments and we will keep our members updated with new information as it arises. In the meantime, we hope all our members, their families and friends are safe and well.
