[Corporate News] Deep C – Reduce plastic waste, protect marine life

Haiphong, 6th June 2020 – In celebration of the World Environment Day 2020 with a theme of Time for Nature, DEEP C Industrial Zones organized a shoreline cleanup event namely “Reduce plastic waste, protect marine life” at one of its sub-zone close to the sea. The event, which called for around 200 volunteers from DEEP C, DEEP C tenants (Bridgestones, Shinetsu) and partners (Dow, URENCO) has helped collect 50 m3 of plastic waste drifted onto DEEP C Haiphong II from the sea. It is worth noting that many of our volunteers have brought their children to the event to teach them about the significance of environment protection from young age.

The marine life is suffering from human’s enduring reliance on plastic. Approximately, over 1 million marine animals are killed each year due to plastic debris in the ocean. The event aimed at collecting plastics waste that are deadly to marine animal, as such mitigating the negative impact of plastic waste on sea life. In terms of education, its purpose is to raise awareness of marine animal and ecosystem protection among people and manufacturing companies operating in DEEP C in particular and the public community in general.

The initiator of this event is DEEP C Eco-team, an internal group of volunteers founded to execute innovative eco-friendly ideas and drive the green living style among DEEP C employees and DEEP C network. Being the pioneer in realizing eco-industrial park concept in Vietnam, DEEP C Industrial Zones is committed to foster industrial manufacturing and economic development in a sustainable manner. DEEP C’s approach to achieve its goal is versatile, ranging from small gestures such as elimination of single-use plastic bottles in office operations, circular economy action such as growing plants using waste water and compost from the site,  to innovative projects like building the first plastic road in Vietnam and generation of green energy from rooftop solar panel, wind turbines, etc.
