Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – August 16, 2024 – BASF Vietnam and its co-sponsors, in collaboration with the social enterprise Think Playgrounds (TPG), have successfully implemented their eighth public playground project in Vietnam. The project aims to support development through outdoor play for more than 200 visually-impaired students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School in Ho Chi Minh City, making it easier for them to learn, grow, and integrate.

The inclusive playground, thoughtfully designed with a variety of play structures, provides a safe and welcoming outdoor space for these children to play, learn, and interact with each other. Featuring environment-friendly materials such as responsibly-sourced eucalyptus wood, the playground also fosters a connection between students and nature. The installation and decoration of play equipment were completed by volunteers from BASF and its partners.

Erick Contreras, Managing Director of BASF Vietnam, stated: “Creating inclusive and sustainable play environments is essential to the development of children, especially those with special needs. We are committed to providing spaces where they can learn, interact, and develop essential skills while promoting sustainability by using eco-friendly materials. In connection with our 30th anniversary in Vietnam this year, we want to take this program to the next level by involving our longstanding distribution partners, who share the same vision to contribute to Vietnam’s economic development and make a lasting impact on the local communities.”

BASF Vietnam started its partnership with Think Playgrounds in 2019 to help address the shortage of outdoor play spaces that has benefited nearly 32,000 children to date, primarily in the outskirts of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to promoting play-based learning, the projects also prioritize sustainability. The aim is to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among the next generation by promoting sustainable materials in constructing these outdoor spaces.

Nguyen Tieu Quoc Dat, the co-founder, and PR Director of Think Playgrounds, expressed: “Our mission is to enhance the quality of public spaces across the country. This new playground holds special significance for visually-impaired students, providing them with a dedicated space to play and learn. We appreciate the commitment and support of BASF Vietnam and their partners in making this vision a reality.”
