[Corporate Partner] Nestlé Vietnam promotes occupational safety and hygiene practices in waste management

Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Deputy General Director in charge of Corporate Affairs, Nestlé Vietnam delivered the opening speech of the Program

Nestlé Vietnam recently conducted a specialized training program focused on occupational safety and hygiene in waste collection and recycling operations for its business partners in the recycling sector. This initiative reflects Nestlé’s ongoing commitment to building a sustainable and responsible supply chain, aligned with its broader mission to foster long-term community development centered around people.

The program also underscores Nestlé Vietnam’s proactive approach to enhancing collaboration and providing increased support to its partners—including private enterprises and small to medium-sized businesses—to strengthen competitiveness in accordance with Resolution 68/NQ-TW.

Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Khuat Quang Hung, Deputy General Director of External Affairs and Communications at Nestlé Vietnam, stated:

“This training program is part of our long-term commitment to building a responsible and sustainable supply chain. By supporting recycling businesses—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises—through the provision of knowledge and tools to improve occupational safety and health practices, we aim to safeguard workers’ rights and contribute to a greener future. Nestlé Vietnam remains steadfast in its mission to create shared value and promote the long-term development of the community, with people at the heart of all our efforts.”

As part of the program, industry experts delivered essential foundational knowledge and shared the latest updates on relevant legal frameworks and international standards. These insights are designed to help businesses assess their environmental compliance and uphold workers’ rights throughout the supply chain.

The training enabled leaders and management teams in the recycling sector to better understand their roles and responsibilities in cultivating a safe, compliant, and responsible workplace culture—ensuring employee well-being, enhancing work quality, and reducing the risk of occupational accidents.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Vinh, representative of UNDP Vietnam, shared about the initiative of responsible purchasing in the plastic recycling value chain in Vietnam

In addition to technical content, the program featured practical insights from UNDP Vietnam, highlighting its initiative on responsible procurement within the plastic recycling value chains of Duy Tan and Vikohasan. This initiative aims to improve working conditions and protect the rights of informal workers in the scrap sector.

“The informal scrap workforce plays a vital role in Vietnam’s waste collection, transportation, and recycling system. Through this initiative, we are working with stakeholders across the plastic recycling value chain to adopt and implement standards that enhance their working conditions and livelihoods, while ensuring their contributions are recognized,” said Mr. Hoang Thanh Vinh, UNDP Representative in Vietnam.

Ms. Luu Thi Kim Lien, Director of Human Resources Administration at Duy Tan Recycled Plastic Joint Stock Company, praised the relevance of the training program organized by Nestlé Vietnam. She noted that the content shared would help businesses review and refine internal processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a safe working environment for employees.

In the context of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) becoming a critical factor in achieving sustainable development goals, businesses are increasingly prioritizing not only environmental concerns but also social responsibility and governance. As a pioneer in ESG practices and a firm believer in the philosophy of “Creating Shared Value,” Nestlé continues to implement targeted initiatives and programs that contribute to community prosperity.
