EU Parliament's INTA Committee Gives Consent to EU-Vietnam Free Trade and Investment Protection Agreements

The European Parliament's International Trade (INTA) Committee on Tuesday has given its consent to the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). The historic free trade agreement will go to a Plenary vote in the European Parliament next month, which will be the final step before ratification in Vietnam's National Assembly. Twenty nine out of forty Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) on the INTA Committee voted in favour of the EVFTA, with 6 MEPs voting against and 5 abstaining.

For the EVIPA, 26 MEPs voted in favour with 7 against and 6 abstentions. EuroCham Chairman Nicolas Audier has been meeting with MEPs in Brussels this week to advocate for a positive vote in the INTA committee, and EuroCham will travel to Strasbourg in February to advocate for a positive vote when MEPs vote on ratification of the EVFTA.

Following the vote in the INTA committee, the EuroCham Delegation also met with the Vietnamese Ambassador to the EU.
