On 5 November 2024, EuroCham joined ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Vietnam’s Business Seminar on Green Technologies, held at the Caravelle Hotel Saigon. The event brought together over 40 industry stakeholders, focusing on opportunities for Austrian and Vietnamese businesses to collaborate on sustainable technology solutions.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh Bao, Vice Chairman of EuroCham’s Green Growth Sector Committee, presented key insights on Vietnam’s green technology landscape across water, waste, and renewable energy. He highlighted the country’s rapid economic growth and position as a regional leader in renewable energy, with over 17GW of solar and 4.5GW of onshore wind capacity. As Vietnam pivots to offshore wind and advances its net-zero goals, he noted the role of policies like the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and Power Development Plan VIII, despite challenges such as regulatory gaps and skilled-labour shortages.
Addressing waste management, Mr. Minh Bao underscored the potential in waste-to-energy (WtE) solutions, with Vietnam targeting 1,212 MW of WtE capacity by 2030. He also detailed the growing need for investment in wastewater treatment as rapid urbanisation raises water demand and exacerbates pollution concerns.
The seminar concluded with presentations by seven Austrian companies offering solutions across water management, waste treatment, and renewable energy. Participants engaged in “B2B Connections,” fostering partnerships to drive Vietnam’s green transition.
EuroCham’s contributions at the seminar reinforced its commitment to supporting sustainable development in Vietnam and facilitating productive exchanges between international green technology leaders.
