EuroCham attended the Asia-Europe Meeting’s 20th Anniversary Panel Discussion in Danang

On 30 November in Danang – the Panel Discussion Building a Vision for a Comprehensive Asia-Europe Partnership in the 21st Century took place at the Furama Hotel. The Panel Discussion showcased the growing role of multilateral diplomacy in the current global political and economic landscape.
 
Happening just after the Asia-Europe Foundation’s (ASEF) Board of Governors Meeting, gathering European and Asian Ambassadors, Diplomats from more than 30 countries; the Panel Discussion covered topics related to future changes in Asia and Europe, trends in the global political landscape and the next era of both ASEM and ASEF.

The Panel Discussion was led by Mr. Hung Do Viet (Deputy Director, Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs), with the participation of Mr. Kamal Malhotra (Resident Coordinator, United Nations in Vietnam), Mr. Steven Everts (ASEF Governor for the EU), H.E. Mr. Kyaw Leader (ASEF Governor for Myanmar) and H.E. Mr. Karsten Warnecke, ASEF Executive Director. Permanent Foreign Minister of Vietnam H.E. Bui Thanh Son opened and closed the session.
 
The session was led by H.E. Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Nga, ASEF Governor for Vietnam. After the Q&A, EuroCham held a short exchange with Ambassador Nga, having handed the Whitebook and the Greenbook, while calling for more private sector participation in intergovernmental dialogues such as the ASEM.

The connection between EuroCham and ASEM in many topics, such as sustainability and youth participation, was clear from the direction of the session, with mutually recognised potential to work together in 2018.
