EuroCham attends Vietnam Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises’ FDI report announcement ceremony

On Tuesday, 26 March 2024  EuroCham Vietnam participated in the announcement ceremony of the 2023 FDI Annual Report in Vietnam, organized by the Vietnam Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises (VAFIE).

Under the theme “Facing New Challenges and Opportunities – Attracting High-Quality FDI in a More Effective Manner”,  the report, compiled with inputs from  government stakeholders sources and international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s FDI landscape.

This comes amid a surge of FDI investments as Vietnam positions itself as a more competitive contender among its ASEAN peers.

The event brought together key stakeholders from various foreign business associations, including the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Korean Chamber of Commerce (Kocham), the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), and EuroCham.

During the meeting, discussions highlighted the critical issue of ensuring an adequate electricity supply for businesses, a concern that has been repeatedly raised by EuroCham and numerous foreign business associations following electricity shortages in Summer 2023.

Earlier this year, on 24 January 2024, EuroCham offered insights and perspectives on EU investment trends and challenges in Vietnam during consultations with VAFIE, contributing to the report’s content. Representing EuroCham at the event was Van Nguyen, the Head of our Hanoi Office and External Relations Manager.

The report also highlighted the evolving focus of new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs), emphasizing the production and export of green products powered by renewable energy, fair worker wages, corporate social responsibility, and carbon emission reduction. While the full report has not been published yet, the announcement ceremony highlights Vietnam’s eagerness to attract high-quality foreign investment and address the key concerns of international businesses.
