At the recently held national Sustainable Development Conference, organized by the Vietnam Investment Review (VIR), EuroCham was distinguished with an accolade recognizing our contributions to sustainable development in Vietnam. The conference, under the theme ‘Taking Responsibility, Taking Action’, served as an important forum for addressing climate change and the imperative of sustainable growth among Vietnamese authorities and the business community.
EuroCham extends our gratitude to VIR for this honor and for inviting us to participate in such a critical event. Van Nguyen, Head of EuroCham’s Hanoi Office and External Relations Manager, proudly received the award on EuroCham’s behalf. Besides highlighting EuroCham’s commitment to sustainable practices, this recognition underscores the collaborative spirit between EuroCham and Vietnamese institutions like VIR.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Tran Quoc Phuong, addressed the conference’s opening session. He emphasized the increasing pressures of modifying development strategies, particularly in light of Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Phuong elaborated on the challenges posed by resource and energy shortages, relatively low levels of scientific and technological advancement, and the associated economic risks in this transformative journey.
Le Trong Minh, VIR’s Editor-in-Chief, spoke about the array of global challenges currently faced. He pointed out that the world is navigating through an era marked by unprecedented difficulties, including the pandemic, strategic competition among major countries, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, natural disasters, and the escalating crisis of climate change. These factors collectively contribute to the instability of the global economy.
