On the 8th of April 2021, in Hanoi, EuroCham welcomed H.E. Tran Thanh Huan, congratulating him on his new position as Director-General of Local Diplomacy Facilitation Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam (MOFA). Mr. Le Gia Thinh, Head of Provincial Section also joined the meeting.
From EuroCham, Chairman Alain Cany, Vice Chairman Nguyen Hai Minh, Executive Committee members Claudia Anselmi and Gianluca Fiume, and Executive Director Oliver Regner joined the meeting. Mr. Huan congratulated Mr. Alain Cany on his election as Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam. The Director General emphasized the role of the Chamber for strengthening the strategic partnership between the EU and Vietnam, especially in terms of trade and investment. Vietnam is the EU´s 15th biggest trade partner and 2nd biggest trade partner in ASEAN. Despite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade exchange continued to increase in 2020. There are more than 2,200 European investment projects in Vietnam with a total capital of more than twenty billion USD. MOFA is working to further promote the trade and investment between EU and Vietnam.
Mr. Alain Cany emphasised, now that the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) had entered into force, EuroCham stands ready to cooperate further with the Local Diplomacy Facilitation Department in co-organising future events to encourage smooth EVFTA implementation and to promote the benefits that the EVFTA brings about.
Both sides are eager to re-activate the activities proposed in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018 between MOFA and EuroCham and to work with all provinces and VCCI to further engage the Vietnamese business community on topics like improving the business environment with a focus on green and sustainable development, and how to make Vietnam becoming more international and more competitive in its own domestic market.
