HCMC – 6 June, EuroCham, together with its Business Associations namely GBA, DBA, BBGV, CCIFV, ICham, CEEC as well as Sector Committees (Food & Agri Aqua Business, Tourism and Human Resource & Training) joined a meeting with delegation of the People’s Committee of Bac Lieu Province. The meeting was hosted by EuroCham key partner, Department of Foreign Affairs for Provinces under Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Duong Thanh Trung, Chairman of the Bac Lieu Peoples Committee delivered remarks and expressed his goodwill to welcome all FDIs to Bac Lieu which has four core industries:
1. Fisheries development, especially shrimp production, high-quality production for export is the Province’s biggest strength.
Bac Lieu has been prioritised as national strategic area for production of shrimp, particularly high-tech shrimp farming models project. The Province’s shrimp production is high-ranked in South East Asia. As one of the centres for shrimp breading production in the Mekong Delta Region and Vietnam, Bac Lieu also exports to Australia – a highly demanding market. Rice farming and production is another strength of the Province.
2. Renewable energy
The advantageous geographical location provided Bac Lieu with stability of climate and wind which are very potential for solar and wind energy businesses. Wind power development plan was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. There were projects that proposed development of solar energy while maintaining shrimp farming on the same land area.
3. Education, Training, Health and Media Services
The province currently need investment in high-quality education and training which is strongly supported by Vietnam Government (through land use incentive). High quality health service is not developed in the region.
4. Tourism
Bac Lieu tourism has a lot of potential, especially with 8 typical tourism projects of Mekong Delta (32 products in the whole region), to name a few Cao Van Lau traditional song (Don Ca Tai Tu) and Prince of Bac Lieu House which are recognised by UNESCO
Representatives of Bac Lieu People’s Committee also shared success stories of doing business in the region and invited FDIs in Ho Chi Minh City to upcoming Investment Conference in Bac Lieu. EuroCham, its Business Associations and Sector Committees took the chance to exchange concerns and recommendations regarding solar power purchase agreement which needs to be upgraded according to international standards, importance of single window coordination office for FDIs investing in Bac Lieu, essentials of good infrastructure and construction quality as well as incentives for investing. EuroCham Tourism Sector Committee asked for forecasts of the Province’s tourism industry in order to to explore more cooperation opportunities.
EuroCham appreciated Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bac Lieu People’s Committee Chairman for the great opportunity to meet and explore more about the province’s potentials. EuroCham promised to update its members and partners on potential of Bac Lieu Province.
