EuroCham presented in the Seminar on Foreign Investment Promotion in Thua Thien Hue province

On 2nd July, a delegation from EuroCham led by Chairman Michael Behrens joined the Seminar on Foreign Investment Promotion in Thua Thien Hue province. The one day seminar was organised  by The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam’s (MOFA) in order to promote foreign investment and tourism in the region. The event featured presentations by several stakeholders and foreign companies operating in Thua Thien-Hue, focusing on the Province’s development and services, highlighting its already advanced healthcare and education capabilities, as well as some investment success stories.

The presentations served to illustrate the potential of the Province for foreign investors, which the local government would like to cooperate with to take Thua Thien-Hue’s  social-economic development and tourism industry further. The conference was an opportunity for attending companies from several countries to showcase their solutions for the Province, but was also for businesses and international business organizations in Vietnam to ask direct questions to the MOFA and the Local Government leadership.

EuroCham made the most of this occasion to raise key issues that mentioned in the Whitebook 2016 by Sector Committees and Members operating in Central Vietnam. The dialogue launched by EuroCham representatives at the conference focused namely on environmental sustainability, tourist visa matters, tourist boat licensing, and destination marketing. The  public officials in the panel appreciated EuroCham’s  questions, acknowledging their relevance and offering promising introductory responses, while committing to continue the exchange on these issues with EuroCham in the near future.

The Seminar itself was a successful event and it was overall a great opportunity to talk to local authorities and potential business partners on behalf of our Members. Among the topics raised by EuroCham representative on behalf of Sector Committees were:

FAASC (Food, Agri and Aqua Business Sector Committee): Food safety, sustainable agriculture

Legal: consistence of Investment laws implementation in the provincial level

Tourism and Hospitality:  Visa exception for European nationals

Green Growth: renewable energy, wastewater treatment, sustainable building

This event is a part of  MOFA-EuroCham Memorandum of Understanding’s  activity agenda, which establishes EuroCham’s participation in several events related to local foreign investment in Vietnam’s provinces. The events under this framework are regularly published on EuroCham’s website open to all of EuroCham’s Members.
