Launching Ceremony "The Exportation of Rice Shipment to the European Union in line with the EVFTA"

On September 22 in Thoai Son district, An Giang province, the People's Committee and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a ceremony to announce the export of fragrant rice shipments to Europe under the EVFTA.

This shipment contained 126 tons of fragrant jasmine rice, exported by Loc Troi Group, which arrived in the European market at the end of September 2020.

Boards of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and delegates cut the ribbon to issue an order for a train to depart carrying rice for export to Europe under the EVFTA

FAABS Co-Chairwoman Ms. Marion Martinez joined this ceremony. She remarked that the EVFTA is a "win-win" agreement for both Vietnam and the EU, as it is one of the most comprehensive and ambitious free trade agreements ever signed between the EU and a developing country.

"In a world where normal business operations are stagnant due to the COVID-19 epidemic and global economic growth is at stake, the EVFTA will help kick-start trade and investment between the two sides. Vietnamese business has re-opened, even as other countries around the world are struggling to cope with the impact of the pandemic. This will create an even greater incentive for European businesses to invest into a safe, secure and fast-growing market", affirmed Ms. Matinez.

Mr. Tran Anh Thu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, emphasized that the EVFTA is a great opportunity and also a challenge for Vietnam in organizing the manufacture of rice products ensuring the quality standards of the import market.

In the coming time, it is necessary to continue to reorganize production according to the value chain of the rice industry under international standards in order to improve the quality and value of rice in terms of international integration.
