On 9 October 2025, the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organised a Consultation Conference on the draft QCVN (Quy Chuan Viet Nam – Vietnam Standards) for alcoholic beverages. Hosting the session was Deputy Minister of MOIT Mr. Truong Thanh Hoai. Representing EuroCham Vietnam was Sector Committee Coordinator Ms. Dinh Thi Thai Linh.
Since the current QCVN 2010 was developed mainly based on EU Standards (2008), which was recently updated in 2024, Vietnam needs to revise its QCVN accordingly. With the main objective of enhancing consumer protection and improving the comprehensiveness of the legal framework, updates to the QCVN will include:
- Update technical requirements in line with the latest EU Standards (2024).
- Add domestic craft alcohols (white spirits) to the scope.
- Update testing methods to reflect current practices in Vietnam.
- Revise sampling methods according to the latest Vietnamese regulations.
During the meeting, domestic wine & spirits and beer businesses also shared practical suggestions regarding inclusion of more alcoholic products, alignment of scientific indicators, and adding regulations for methanol levels in beer. The MOIT well-received these suggestions to consider in the next revision, with a plan for QCVN adoption in December 2025.
EuroCham is pleased to continue contributing to clear and globally aligned regulations and standards for the Wine & Spirits sector and enhanced consumer protection in Vietnam.
