Transport Infrastructure Outlook 2017: Vice Chair Tomaso Andreatta shared EuroCham's views with Top Officials and Experts

On 22 May, in HCMC, Vice Chair Tomaso Andreatta, also Chairman of EuroCham's Green Growth Sector Committee, shared the organisation's views on several key issue regarding the present and future of Transport Infrastructure in Vietnam.

Vice Chair Tomaso Andreatta speaking before the Conference

Mr. Andreatta highlighted several topics in regards to the Transport Infrastructure development policies in Vietnam, urging the Government to privilege approaches that create value for the country, allowing the sustained participation of the private sector, and prioritising transport channels which are smarter and more realistic for the country's current stage of development.

EuroCham's contribution focused on what infrastucture development to prioritise in Vietnam and the region, and clear recommendations

In this speech, Mr. Andreatta mentioned several issues which are covered by EuroCham's yearly Whitebook (9th Edition launched March 2017), among additional topics. His address was clearly marked by references to:
1. HIGHWAYS and their importance, and as one of the areas where there is relative success.
2. RAILWAYS and why they should be treated as a priority in Vietnam. This section also mentions the "High Speed Project" and its over-reliance on external sources and with future complex management.
3. PORTS. As a growing producer and transformer of goods in currently favourable market conditions, Vietnam's has an opportunity in transhipment ports in competition with Hong Kong and Singapore, but it needs to act decisively on it.
4. AIRPORTS. It is fundamental to clarify if there is a strategy for national hub in Vietnam and what is the Long Thanh Airport project's ambitious plan's role.
5. METRO. The projects in  Hanoi and HCMC seem to be slowing down on account of financing, what solutions could there be.
6. FINANCING. Assuring conversion and pay-back reserves from the Government to foreign investors, clarifying the PPP approach, continue to streamline tender processes for further transparency, empowering Government agencies, ensure investment protection and respecting international arbitration were amont the issues mentioned.
