The Agence Unviersitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), was created 60 years ago and is the world’s leading university network with more than 1000 members: universities, grandes écoles, and research institutes in nearly 120 countries. Established in 70 countriesn the AUF has a network of 180 local representations.
The AUF is also the direct and recognized operator of the Summit of Heads of States and the Government of the Francophonie in the field of higher education and research.
What is our mission ?
An apolitical and non - governmental international organization, the AUF is a label that carries a vision for a better development of education and university systems. Respecting the diversity ofcultures and languages, the AUF acts in favor of scientific francophonie engaged in the economic, social and cultural development of societies.
The AUF in Asia and the Pacific
The Asia-Pacific region is home to over 4.7 billion people, representing about 60% of the world'spopulation. However, Francophonie constitutes only a small fraction of this population, with just 0.3%of French speakers. In this region characterized by multilingualism, with a strong prevalence of Englishamong the languages taught, French is often a deliberate and strategic choice.
In this context, the AUF, through its Asia-Pacific Regional Office based in Hanoi for the past 30 years,proposes concrete initiatives to showcase a vibrant Francophonie, offering opportunities and serving as a lever for employability. By offering a wide range of development projects throughknowledge, The AUF strives to promote research in Francophonie, support the growth of French-language training programs, strengthen the capacities of its member institutions, and stimulateacademic cooperation in this dynamic and promising region.
The AUF Regional Directorate Asia-Pacific coordinates a network of 86 institutes of higher education and reserach members spreadings over 13 countries and French overseas collectivities : Cambodia, China, Fiji, French Polynesia, India, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Caledonia, South Korea, Thailand, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
Joining the AUF means becoming part of a vibrant and borderless community, by striving to build bridges between French-speaking universities worldwide and supporting French as a language of teaching and research, the AUF continues to demonstrate that this shared language is modern, creative, innovative, practical, and unifying. In short, French is a language of the future.
