On 8 April 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), in coordination with the Government Office (OOG), officially launched the 2024 Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Index at a high-level ceremony held at the Government Headquarters.
The event welcomed the presence of H.E. Mr. Phạm Minh Chính – Prime Minister of Vietnam, along with other senior leaders including H.E. Mr. Bùi Thanh Sơn – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Diên – Minister of Industry and Trade, and representatives from ministries, provincial authorities, diplomatic missions, international organisations, and the business community.
Representing EuroCham Vietnam at the event was Mr. Minh Nguyen, Vice Chairman in charge of External Relations.
The FTA Index is designed as a quantitative, objective, and comprehensive tool to assess how Vietnam’s 63 provinces and cities are implementing FTAs. According to Minister Nguyễn Hồng Diên, the index will be updated annually to help identify local bottlenecks in implementation, propose targeted solutions, and promote efficient policy execution.
“The FTA Index is not merely for comparison,” said the Minister. “It acts as a driving force to encourage both local authorities and businesses to effectively implement FTAs and optimise the opportunities they bring — diversifying export markets, supply chains, and products.”
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính emphasised that international economic integration through FTAs is a key pathway for Vietnam to connect with the world. “The effective implementation of FTAs is not only about fulfilling our international commitments,” he noted, “but also about driving domestic reforms, expanding markets, and enhancing national competitiveness.”
With 17 FTAs signed with over 60 global economies, Vietnam continues to position itself as a proactive and trusted trade partner. EuroCham remains committed to supporting Vietnam’s international integration journey and ensuring that FTAs, including the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), are fully leveraged to benefit both sides.
