On 25 July, EuroCham Vietnam participated in the 2024 Customs-Business Dialogue hosted by the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Customs Department. The dialogue emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration between businesses and customs authorities.
Juergen Weber, Chairman of EuroCham’s Transportation & Logistics Sector Committee (TLSC), highlighted specific challenges facing the industry, including:
- Container blockages
- Inefficiencies in on-the-spot import/export procedures
The Ba Ria-Vung Tau Customs Department, responsible for overseeing one of Vietnam’s busiest port areas, presented new regulations and equipment designed to enhance their operational capabilities. These improvements are part of Vietnam’s broader customs modernization program, which aims to align with World Customs Organization standards.
They also addressed business concerns by providing information on:
- Centralised inspection centre procedures.
- Bonded warehouse licensing, which are secure facilities supervised by customs authorities where imported goods can be stored without payment of duties.
- Customs valuation and declaration processes.
EuroCham expressed its commitment to working closely with the local customs authorities to improve efficiency in the transportation and logistics sector. The dialogue served as a platform for open communication between customs officials and business representatives, fostering a more transparent and efficient trading environment in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau region.
