EuroCham discusses recycling cost norms for producers in Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) meeting

On July 5, 2023, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) organized a meeting in Hanoi to discuss the Prime Minister’s draft decision regarding the calculation of the recycling costs for producers of recyclable packaging materials and products. The objective of this meeting was to gather comments and recommendations from stakeholders, including EuroCham, to ensure the formulation of reasonable and valid norms that support waste collection and treatment responsibilities for manufacturers and importers.

EuroCham was represented by Head of the Technical Working Group of the EuroCham Nutritional Foods Group (NFG) Nguyen Hong Uy and Head of EuroCham’s Hanoi office cum External Relations Manager Van Nguyen.

EuroCham, along with other participants, raised concerns regarding the establishment of fair and justified cost norms for recycling, which include expenses related to product volume, packaging, and administrative tasks involved in managing, supervising, and supporting waste collection and treatment responsibilities of manufacturers and importers.

During the seminar, Ms. Van Nguyen, representing EuroCham, shared comments from a joint letter sent by EuroCham’s Sector Committees, including the Food Agri & Aqua Business Sector Committee (FAABS), the Green Growth Sector Committee (GGSC), the Mobility Sector Committee, the NFG, and the Wine & Spirits Sector Committee. This letter, sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on May 16, 2023, outlined concerns and recommendations regarding the proposed recycling cost norms.
